My understanding is the body and frame have less than 100K miles on it. The previous owner got it in the mid 70's and did the conversion to Chevy running gear in the late 70's. Since then he towed it behind his motor home a few times a year and drove it on logging roads. Since I got it I drove it daily for a while and then decided to do some work to it. Work I just did includes changing out the rear springs and perches
lengthening the wheelbase about 3 inches so I could fit 35" tires on it. While I was at it I replaced all of the bushings and had the drive-line rebuilt. It it a lot less twitchy on the freeway since doing this. When I got the FJ it had the standard rust in the rocker panels and the floor just inside the door. I cut all of the rusty metal out and fabricated new pieces to replace it. I also installed an optima battery box and new optima battery and installed the TJ rear seat.
Here is some of the work I did to it.
Pictures go from one side to the other. Work was similar on both sides but the rust in the floor on the passenger side wasn't as bad.
The floor under the driver seat after I cut out all of the rusty metal.
The "tool box" that is under the driver seat. The bottom was rusted out most of the way around so I had to cut it all out and fabricate a replacement.
From the side before any new metal was welded in.
Here it is with the new rocker tacked into place
After being fully welded and then welds ground down
Lengthening the wheelbase.
